Se trata de una obra que se concibió tras contemplar, que desde hace 22 años no se había publicado ninguna obra en la que se reflejara la situación de la psiquiatría española hasta nuestros días. En estos 22 años esta disciplina ha crecido extraordinariamente, y en el momento actual está situada en un excelente lugar en el contexto internacional. Esta obra, en la que han colaborado 243 autores, se compone de dos tomos divididos en grandes secciones, que se detallan a continuación: La primera (A), corresponde a generalidades, en la que se incluyen ocho temas básicos de la psiquiatría, sobre historia, concepto de enfermedad mental, etiología en psiquiatría y psiquiatría basada en pruebas. La segunda (B) trata de los fundamentos de la psiquiatría, compuesta por doce capítulos de bases biológicas, siete de bases psicosociales y dos de epidemiología. La tercera gran sección (C) de esta obra corresponde a la evaluación en psiquiatría, integrada por nueve capítulos que analizan la entrevista, la personalidad, la exploración del estado. La cuarta (D) se refiere a la clasificación, formada por dos capítulos, uno referido a la historia de las clasificaciones y el otro a las clasificaciones actuales. La quinta sección (E), que se puede encontrar dividida entre los tomos I y II, corresponde al gran conglomerado de trastornos psiquiátricos, agrupados en siete capítulos sobre trastornos orgánicos, ocho sobre adicciones, dos sobre psicosis, nueve sobre esquizofrenia y otras psicosis, once sobre trastornos afectivos, once sobre trastornos neuróticos, cuatro sobre trastornos psiquiátricos del adulto, cinco sobre trastornos infantojuveniles y tres sobre psicogeriatría. La siguiente gran sección (F) se refiere al ámbito de los tratamientos psiquiátricos, subdividida en quince capítulos de terapéuticas biológicas, ocho de terapéuticas psicológicas y seis de dispositivos asistenciales y rehabilitación. Overview

Introduction to international politics courses typically have multiple goals. On the one hand, instructors seek to introduce students to the discipline through readings and discussions of foundational theoretical perspectives and ongoing debates. On the other hand, instructors seek to help students become informed participants in policy debates about foreign policy and international politics issues by highlighting pressing contemporary issues. Effectively addressing both concerns requires more than simply including both topics in the course syllabus or in a textbook. It requires making systematic linkages between theory and policy. This is a long standing challenge in international politics, one raised many years ago by Alexander George in Bridging the Gap in which he called for greater communication between academic scholars and practitioners. This text seeks to link theory and policy in an organized and efficient fashion that does not ignore or slight the conceptual discussion of international relations or simply chase newspaper headlines. Chapters are organized around “Global Challenges and Policy Responses.” The challenges are presented as concrete policy problems relevant to the theme of the chapter. The discussion of responses emphasize concrete actions being taken or proposed by international organizations, the foreign policies of key states, international agreements, and actions taken by NG's. Theoretical insights are used to help students understand challenges, think about solutions, and learn from the past.
